About

As you read this, I’ll ask you to stop for a second and feel your breath as it moves through your lungs.

Just settle.

Take a moment, right here, right now, and settle. Nowhere to go. Nothing to do. No one way you’re supposed to be.

Feel the seat beneath you. Feel the breath in your lungs. And just settle.

Notice your thoughts. Noticing not only what you are thinking about, but also how you are thinking. Whether your thoughts are moving quickly, slowly, with a tone of condescension or a warm gentle voice.

After taking some time with your thoughts, notice your body. Feeling into each limb, your torso, neck and shoulders. Noticing any sensations of stillness or movement, tension or pressure, or places of an easy, gentle space.

Finally, notice your emotional tone. If there are any sparks of anger floating in you or quivering of fear. Tight, fast places of anxiety, or the soft, heavy spots of sadness. The subtle agitations of boredom. You might notice all of these, a few of them, or just one.

Having taken the time to notice and connect with yourself, come back to your breath, and again…

Settle.

This is likely the first exercise you will experience with me as your therapist.

Rather than just talk through all the problems in your life, I’m interested in getting to know the whole you from the inside out. By deepening your understanding and connection to your everyday, moment-to-moment experience, you’ll discover a whole new world.

Knowing yourself in this way can change your life.

How you treat yourself is one of the biggest factors for how you live; and by diving into the living, breathing moments of you, we get to learn all about that relationship; together.

I’m not going to have all the answers to your problems.

But I know how to help you find your own answers! How to dive into the deep discomforts, fears, tensions, and uncertainties that keep you locked in the same old routines.

When you discover answers in this way, they have staying power. When you feel genuine self-compassion, for even just five seconds, all that self-criticism suddenly becomes a lot harder to do.

When you recognize your true passion and desire for life, procrastination begins to lose its appeal.

By touching the parts of you that are vibrant, energized, and alive, you begin to incorporate them into your life on a regular basis.

Now I know you might be thinking, “What if I don’t have love for myself? What if I don’t really care about life?”

Fear might tighten your chest as you consider the possibility that you aren’t really capable of passion or vitality.

Take a deep breath. Notice the fear, feel the energy of your body, the racing doubt in your mind, and settle.

We are all born with a natural love for life, the world, and the people in it. No toddler dances or sings with worries about what other people might think, or whether what they are doing is good enough.

This free, creative, spontaneous self is your birthright! And I have no doubt that it is still there. Living, and maybe hiding, in the corners of your soul.

About Me

I got by through high school, having been promised that in college everything would be better. But it is when I moved out on my own that my struggles really began.

My struggles were with motivation, follow-through, and social anxiety. I could easily hole up in my room for days; something that always ended in a sense of depression. I was hampered by the double-edged sword of procrastination and perfectionism, which always left me doing less and feeling like I was never going to be good enough.

For a long time, I felt like I was behind my peers and that I would never be able to catch up. I felt like a fraud and thought it was only a matter of time before someone found out just how messed up I really was.

I began working at a primitive living skills camp in Vermont, and I discovered a new me through a connection with nature. This led me to pursue a graduate degree in Wilderness Therapy, and along the way I engaged in my own therapy.

There were many discoveries through this period of my life – and many of my struggles came from getting stuck in my head. I tried to think my way through every problem, analyze a situation, and often this left me in a free fall of self-criticism and self-doubt.

By building a relationship to my body and my heart, I discovered a whole new way of relating to myself and the world. I was able to step out of the self-critical thought loops and discover a confident and peaceful me.

My office is located in Gunbarrel, CO and I work with most clients via telehealth. I live outside Golden, Colorado, with my husband, two dogs, and a cat. In my spare time, I like to read, knit, walk in the woods, and talk to myself. If you want help finding yourself, call me at (720) 633-4311 for a free consultation. We can renew your heart together.
